The Blueberry Family Health Foundation is a new non-profit group with a mission to help end Type-2 Diabetes in children. Diabetes is one of the top “killer” diseases in the United States.
Diabetes 101
There are three kinds of diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes mellitus (T1DM), used to be called “juvenile onset” or insulin-dependent diabetes. It is unknown what causes Type 1 Diabetes mellitus. Gestational diabetes is another major form of the disease that 3 to 10% of pregnant mothers with no history of the disease get. Researchers and medical professionals are pretty sure what causes this type of diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes A Plague On Our Children
Then there is Type-2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This is the version of diabetes that is the new pox on our children. Although there are other paths to this disease, obesity is the cause when it comes to T2DM in children. Type-2 Diabetes mellitus is a modern plague that should be as worrisome as any flu pandemic. Twenty years ago, Type-2 Diabetes was once rarely seen in children. Today 50% of the diabetes cases diagnosed in children are the T2DM.

Blueberries have been family farmed in one way or another since primitive people foraged what is now northeastern USA and Canada.
