Hello NCBC Growers,
Please see the important message below from Bill Cline with NCSU in regards to the Food Safety modernization Act training and certification.
Brenda C. Park, Executive Director
North Carolina Blueberry Council
The Produce Safety provisions of the Food Safety Modernization Act will require all commercial blueberry producers to attend training and receive certification. At least one person from each farm must attend training and be certified.
Those operations with over $500K in annual sales must be certified prior to January 26, 2018.
Chip Simmons with the NC Fresh Produce Safety team and Bladen county agent Bruce Mclean have scheduled a training session for blueberry growers on December 12. This all-day event will be held at the Bladen Cooperative Extension Center.
From the website: “This one-day training course on the Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) standardized curriculum is for produce growers. This course meets the regulatory requirements of the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule.”
The website lists several events where this training will be offered, so growers who cannot make the Dec 12 meeting will still be able to get certified by attending one of the alternate locations. For more information or to register, go to:
Please contact me, Bruce or Chip if you have any questions.
